VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO CLASSICO SUPERIORE 2021 SELECTED IN IAN D’AGATA’S ITALIAN WINES OF 2023
Our Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 2021 has earned a prestigious place in the selection “Ian D’Agata’s Italian Wines of 2023” with 93 points.
Ian d’Agata, who describes the quest for a good Valpolicella Ripasso as challenging as finding a needle in a haystack, has labeled our Valpolicella Ripasso 2021 as “one of the best I have ever tasted” and states that:
“Nowadays, most producers treat the Ripasso category (in which Valpolicella wine is passed over Amarone skins: hence a re-passage, or ripasso) as a means by which to make ripely soft, slightly sweet, fleshy baby-Amarone wines, and in the process end up only making a very cheap, poor copy of the original work of art. Not so at Speri, the well-respected family firm in San Pietro a Cariano that makes some of Veneto’s best wines. A blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and happily 10% Molinara (plus other varieties), Speri’s 2021 Valpolicella Ripasso is one of the best I have ever had. I think that the presence of the Molinara is very evident here (that’s why I write “happily”), because it makes for a more politely-styled, perfumed, lively and totally refreshing red wine.”
This is a significant recognition for our Valpolicella Ripasso, known for its “politely-styled” character.
