“When tradition is the fruit of decades of experience and stylistic integrity is an indispensable value”.
The Speri family, if Amarone della Valpolicella is the latest born of Valpolicella wines, is one of the oldest wineries to produce this wine: the first bottles that were marketed date back to the second half of the nineteen fifties. And the Winery has always focused its greatest efforts here.
Speri produces a single Amarone, Amarone docg Classico Sant’Urbano.
Grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, and carefully graded to select only loosely clustered bunches, those that have the best characteristics for long natural drying on racks.
The Winery has three fruit sheds located in hill or foothill zones with good natural ventilation for mold-free drying and maintenance of the organoleptic properties of the grapes. The main fruit shed is in the center of the Speri family’s Sant’Urbano Estate, 300 m/above sea level, the perfect position that guarantees a dry climate and excellent ventilation.
Here grapes are still dried on traditional “arele” wooden and bamboo racks, well distanced one from the other.
The Speri family, in its effort to always achieve the best possible quality, does not produce Amarone during unfavorable vintages and only markets the wine when at least 12 months have elapsed after the date set by the production regulations.
